Optimal Volume: | Three 2.7 mL (in 3 mL tube) - fill to fill line on the tube |
Minimum\Peds Volume: | Two 2.7 mL (in 3 mL tube) - fill to fill line on the tube |
Container: | Blue Na Citrate, 3.2% - fill to fill line on tube |
Collection Instructions: | Patient should be off warfarin for at least 2 weeks before drawing sample. |
Causes for Rejection: | Overfilled or underfilled tubes. Specimen other than citrated plasma. Clotted or hemolyzed specimens. Refrigerated specimens. |
Processing and Shipping
Specimen Processing: | See link to Specimen Collection and Processing of Coagulation Specimens for platelet-poor plasma. Transfer 1.5 mL, minimum of 1 mL, platelet-poor plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport tube. Store frozen. |

Use: | Not recommended for detecting protein S deficiency; preferred test is Protein S Free, Antigen (LAB492). Use to subtype deficiency in known protein S-deficient individuals in combination with Protein S Free, Antigen, or Protein S, Functional (Miscellaneous to ARUP test ID 0030114). |
