Special Instructions:Specimens must arrive within 72 hours of collection. A control specimen from a normal, unrelated, nonsmoking person drawn at the same time as the patient must accompany each sample. Indicate donor gender on the sample.


Collection Instructions

Collection Instructions:Patient specimen and two well-made peripheral blood smears from the patient sample (Wright stained or fixed in absolute methanol) are required for testing. Also required is a control from an unrelated, nonsmoking individual collected at the same time. Immediately refrigerate specimen after draw. Label control tube on outermost label as "normal control".
Causes for Rejection:Hemolysis. Clotted from frozen specimens. Specimens sent without a normal control or peripheral blood smears.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not process, Refrigerate samples immediately after draw.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature. Keep patient sample, smears and normal control together and in the original containers. Indicate gender of the donor on the sample.
