Special Instructions:A signed informed consent in the patient's medical record is required; the consent should not be sent to the laboratory. The link to the Genetic Testing Consent Form is provided as a convenience for the providers and genetic counselors. A maternal specimen and a prenatal specimen are required. MCC/Maternal Cell Contamination, Molecular Analysis must be ordered on both the prenatal and maternal specimens under separate order numbers. Specimens must arrive at the testing site within 96 hours of collection.

Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood, cord blood, amniotic fluid
Optimal Volume:3 mL maternal or cord blood; 20 mL amniotic fluid
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL maternal or cord blood; 10 mL amniotic fluid
Container:Purple (EDTA)
Alternate Containers: Plastic leakproof container, sterile, Yellow (ACD, Solution A) tube available from laboratory
Collection Instructions:Cultured amniocytes, chorionic villi or cultured chorionic villi are also acceptable. Contact reference laboratory for further information.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not process. Store maternal or cord blood at room temperature and amniotic fluid refrigerated.
Shipping Instructions:Ship maternal or cord blood at room temperature and amniotic fluid refrigerated. Specimens must arrive within 96 hours of collection.

Interpretive

Reference Range:By report.
