Special Instructions:A signed informed consent in the patient's medical record is required; the consent should not be sent to the laboratory. See Associated Links. Specimen must arrive within 96 hours of draw to be stabilized. Draw specimen Monday through Thursday only and not the day before a holiday. Specimen should be drawn and packaged as close to shipping time as possible.

Causes for Rejection:Gross hemolysis; samples older than 6 days.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not process. Store in refrigerator. Do not freeze.
Shipping Instructions:Ship in original container at refrigerated temperature to arrive within 96 hours of collection.

Limitations:Enzyme levels may be normal in individuals receiving enzyme replacement therapy.
Use:Diagnosis of Gaucher disease.
