Patient Preparation: | If this is an initial test for Pyrroles, discontinue taking any B6 or zinc one week prior to collection. If retesting, take supplements as usual.
Femal patients: DO NOT collect specimen during menstrual cycle. |
Causes for Rejection: | Ascorbic acid not used to maintain specimen stability. Room temperature or refrigerated specimens. Specimens not protected from light. |
Processing and Shipping
Specimen Processing: | Aliquot urine into an amber ascorbic acid plastic tube within 15 minutes of collection. Do not transfer ascorbic acid to collection container. Fill with urine, no less than 1/2 full and no more than 3/4 full (approximately 2-8 mL). Mix and freeze immediately. Store frozen. Do not thaw. Protect from light. |
Shipping Instructions: | Ship overnight on dry ice. |
Stability: | 30 days frozen. Room temperature or refrigerated samples are unacceptable. |
