Collection Instructions

Specimen:Fine needle wash
Optimal Volume:1.5 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.5 mL
Container:Plastic leakproof container, sterile
Collection Instructions:A minimum of 0.5 mL is required for testing; however, the total collection volume should not exceed 1.5 mL. Sample volumes outside these parameters may be rejected. If more than 1 site is biopsied, each washing material should be submitted in a separate tube and under a different order number.
Causes for Rejection:Gross hemolysis; room temperature specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:If bloody, centrifuge specimens and aliquot 1.5 mL, 0.5 mL minimum of supernatant. Do not process clear specimens. Freeze within 2-4 hours of collection.
Shipping Instructions:Ship on dry ice.
Stability:Stability: Samples are stable up to 4 hours refrigerated and 7 days frozen.
