Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:14 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:3 mL
Container:Red (no gel)

Collection Instructions:Collect specimen prior to dialysis. Do not collect specimen if patient has received IVIG, OKT3 or Campath recently; these drugs may cause false positive results. Inform lab if patient has received anti-thymoglobulin. Lab must remove from serum prior to testing.
Causes for Rejection:Gross hemolysis; immunosuppression drug interference.
Contraindications:Serum will not clot if collected during or immediately after dialysis.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not process (preferred). If processed, remove serum. Store at room temperature.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at room temperature; protect from temperature extremes.
Stability:Store at room temperature (preferred), refrigerated or frozen.

Interpretive

Use:Expanded detection of HLA Class 1 or Class II antibodies in patient serum. High levels of HLA antibody may result in difficulty finding a compatible organ donor.
