Collection Instructions
| Specimen: | Bronchoscopy, lung aspirate, lung tissue or pleural fluid |
| Container: | Plastic leakproof container, sterile |
| Contraindications: | Respiratory specimens such as sputum, tracheal aspirate and endotracheal aspirate may be requested and cultured, but normal respiratory flora may mask growth of Legionella. Throat, and nasopharynx cultures are not acceptable specimens due to the presence of normal respiratory flora. |
