Collection Instructions: | Serum is preferred. EDTA plasma is also acceptable. Serum is the only acceptable sample for neonates. |
Causes for Rejection: | See individual test codes (LAB868, LAB887 and LAB9465). A green (lithium heparin, gel tube is unacceptable for screening.) For a reactive HCV antibody screen, the sample must be frozen within 72 hours of collection to run the Hepatitis C RNA, Quantitation and Hepatitis C Genotyping. |
Processing and Shipping
Specimen Processing: | Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection and aliquot 4 mL, 1.8 mL minimum. Store in refrigerator up to 3 days. Freeze samples if transport time is greater than 3 days. |
