  • All sites except FLMC, FRH, FNH: Fresh whole blood collected in dry heparin syringe. Alternate: Green (lithium heparin gel)
  • FLMC, FNH, FRH  and FSH CT/MRI only: Green (lithium heparin, gel)
  • Lithium heparin tubes must be filled to manufacturer's fill line indicated by the black box on the label.
  • Patients taking Hydroxyurea should not have this test performed. Incorrect results will be obtained. Order a LAB66 (Creatinine). 
  • If not tested immediately, re-mix sample by rolling syringe or tube between palms for at least 5 seconds each in two different directions, then invert the syringe or tube repeatedly for at least 5 seconds. Discard the first 2 drops of blood.
   
Causes for Rejection:Underfilled tube.

20 y & older, male 0.66-1.25 mg/dL
   
Use:Monitor creatinine values and kidney function at the patient's bedside.
