Collection Instructions

Specimen:Urine, random collection
Optimal Volume:30 mL Urine volume must include sufficient urine for confirmation if added. Submit entire collection.
Minimum\Peds Volume:5 mL
Container:Plastic leakproof container, sterile
Causes for Rejection:Preservatives; less than 1 mL urine; urine samples that are either extremely acidic (below pH 4.0) or basic (above pH 9.0) may produce erroneous results. If adulteration is suspected, obtain an additional specimen and re-test. Clear polystyrene containers may absorb some drugs; use of polypropylene containers is advised.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Submit entire collection. Store refrigerated or frozen.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature to arrive within 48 hours of collection. Alternatively, ship on dry ice.
Stability:48 hours refrigerated; for longer storage freeze.
