Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood

Collection Instructions:Biodesix tubes should be the last tubes collected during a blood draw. Collection with a butterfly needle is acceptable, but not recommended.
Tubes must be collected in the following order:
  • 10 mL black and tan topped GeneStrat BCT tube with clear liquid (invert 8-10 times) - filled completely. Do not process.
  • Two 10 mL brick red topped GeneStrat BCT tubes with brown liquid (invert 8-10 times) - filled completely. Do not process.
  • One 3 mL purple EDTA tube (invert 8-10 times) - filled completely.
Causes for Rejection:Hemolyzed samples; centrifuged GeneStrat BCT samples; incomplete requisition forms.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Send sample to East Bank Core Lab Sendouts for processing. 
  1. Remove top from PURPLE topped EDTA tube.
  2. Transfer 5 DROPS of blood directly into the center of the Biodesix Collection Device. Wait 2 MINUTES for blood to fully absorb.
  3. Write patient initials and collect date on bar codes provided in kit. Label card, GeneStrat BCT tubes. and request form with bar code.
  4. Close device and attach completed patient ID label. Place device into a biohazard-labeled bag and seal, and then place into the kit box. Discard purple topped tube.
  5. Do not process GeneStrat BCT tubes.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at room temperature. Saturday deliveries accepted.
Stability:7 days at room temperature.
