Collection Instructions

Specimen:Urine, random collection
Optimal Volume:30 mL urine volume must include sufficient urine for confirmation if added. Submit entire collection.
Minimum\Peds Volume:5 mL
Container:Plastic leakproof container, sterile
Causes for Rejection:Preservatives; less than 1 mL urine; urine samples that are either extremely acidic (below pH 4.0) or basic (above pH 9.0) may produce erroneous results. If adulteration is suspected, obtain an additional specimen and retest. Clear polystyrene containers may absorb some drugs; use of polypropylene containers is advised.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Submit entire collection. Store refrigerated or frozen.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature to arrive within 24 hours of collection. Alternatively ship on dry ice.
