Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:2-3 mL EDTA tube or 0.5 mL in an EDTA microtainer
Minimum\Peds Volume: 1 mL EDTA tube or 0.3 mL in an EDTA microtainer
Container:Purple (EDTA)
Collection Instructions:Immediately mix specimen 10 times by gentle inversion.
Causes for Rejection:Clotted specimen; specimen greater than 48 hours old.

Reticulocyte hemoglobin is a direct measurement of the hemoglobination of the developing reticulocytes. It can be used in conjunction with other indicators for the early identification of iron deficiency/iron deficiency anemia.
