Turnaround Time:Performed Mon-Fri 08:00-17:00 and on Saturday before noon. Results are reported within 1-3 business days.
Special Instructions:Provide diagnosis, age, collection date, and time. Samples will be tested Mon-Fri 08:00-17:00 and on Saturday before noon. Samples are received in the Core lab when the Flow Cytometry lab is not staffed. Contact the IFC laboratory at 612-273-5248 for further information. If testing is needed outside of scheduled hours, contact the hematopathology fellow.

Collection Instructions

Specimen:Bone marrow
Optimal Volume:4 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:2 mL
Container:Syringe, sterile, no needle
Alternate Containers: Green (sodium heparin, no gel), Purple (EDTA)
Collection Instructions:Collect in a sterile syringe with 0.5-1.0 mL of 1000 unit heparin per 5 mL of bone marrow to prevent clotting. Alternately collect in a sterile syringe and transfer immediately to a green (sodium heparin, no gel) or purple (EDTA) tube.
Causes for Rejection:Improper specimen collection or handling; clotted specimen; specimen received >48 hours after collection.

Specimen Processing:Do not process. Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at room temperature.
Stability:48 hours at room temperature or refrigerated.

Use:Use this test code for patients enrolled in COG B-ALL trials requiring decentralized flow MRD testing. COG trials are appropriate for patients <20 years old, and can only be ordered while logged in as a UR context. This test code is for day 29 bone marrow specimens.
