Collection Instructions: | Collect in clean, dry bedpan or onto newspaper over the toilet. |
Causes for Rejection: | Feces in transport media, swabs, or preservatives are unacceptable. |
Processing and Shipping
Specimen Processing: | Refrigerate up to 72 hours or freeze indefinitely. Specimen may be frozen and thawed twice. If testing cannot be performed within 72 hours, specimen should be frozen and stored frozen until tested. |
Shipping Instructions: | Ship at refrigerated temperature to arrive within 72 hours. Alternatively, ship on dry ice. |

Interpretive
Reference Range: | Negative for Helicobacter pylori stool antigen. |
Limitations: | Antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, and bismuth preparations are known to suppress H. pylori, and ingestion of these prior to H. pylori testing (culture, histology, rapid urease, UBT, antigen) may give a false negative result. |
