Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:2-3 mL EDTA tube or 0.5 mL in an EDTA microtainer (do not fill more than 0.5 mL) and 2.5 mL green (lithium heparin, gel).
Minimum\Peds Volume:1 mL EDTA tube or 0.3 mL in an EDTA microtainer and 0.6 mL green (lithium heparin, gel).
Container:Green (lithium heparin, gel), Purple (EDTA)
Collection Instructions:Collect both purple (EDTA) tube and green (lithium heparin, gel). Immediately mix purple tube specimen 10 times by gentle inversion.
Causes for Rejection:Clotted specimen; Hgb, MCH and MCHC are not reported on lipemic specimens.

Specimen Processing:Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature. If more than 24 hours is required for transport, 2 unstained whole blood smears must accompany whole blood EDTA specimen.
