Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:5 mL (adult); 2 mL (infant)
Minimum\Peds Volume:3 mL (adult); 1 mL (infant)
Container:Purple (EDTA)
Alternate Containers: Green (sodium heparin, no gel)
Causes for Rejection:Frozen, hemolyzed or clotted specimens.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Whole blood; do not process. Store at room temperature.
Shipping Instructions:Ship overnight at room temperature (preferred). Protect from temperature extremes.
Stability:7 days at room temperature. Samples received greater than 7 days after collection will be rejected and not used for analysis.
