Test Includes:Identification and/or susceptibilities of a specific bacterial or fungal isolates. Laboratory will select appropriate battery of antibiotics to be tested depending on the isolate.
Turnaround Time:Performed 24 hours/day; results are reported within 2-6 days.
Special Instructions:Mycobacteria are sent to the reference laboratory for identification.


Collection Instructions

Specimen:Submit a fresh and pure subculture of an isolate submitted on appropriate media and atmospheric conditions.

Specimen Processing:Store at room temperature.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at room temperature. Must arrive within 24 hours.

Interpretive

Therapeutic Range:
Systemic infections 2-4 times the reported MIC should be equal to or less than the peak attainable blood level
Urinary infections 10-20 times the reported MIC should be equal to or less than the peak attainable urine level
Results are reported as MICs (minimum inhibitory concentrations) for most antibiotics.
