Carotenoid concentrations may be elevated due to hypothyroidism, hyperlipemia due to diabetes mellitus, myxedema, or chronic nephritis or vitamin supplementation. Carotenoid testing is useful in evaluating vitamin A status, antioxidant levels and overall nutrition. |
