Optimal Volume:2 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.6 mL
Container:Red or gold (gel)
Alternate Containers: Green (lithium heparin, gel), Purple (EDTA), Red (no gel)
Collection Instructions:Serum is preferred. EDTA or heparinized plasma will be accepted. Serum is the only acceptable sample for neonates.
Causes for Rejection:Gross hemolysis, turbidity.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection and aliquot 0.6 mL; 0.3 minimum.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:After separation from cells: Up to 6 days refrigerated. Freeze aliquot sample if stored more than 6 days.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab UM Specialty Core/Prot/Endo (Architect A)
