Interpretive

The total protein concentration is 4-8 g/L lower when the sample is collected from a patient situated in the recumbent position rather than upright. |
Limitations: | Fibrinogen can interfere with the detection of some monoclonal proteins within the ELP test, therefore necessitating ELP be tested on serum samples only, not plasma. Therefore, the total protein test must also be tested using serum samples, not plasma, to ensure fibrinogen won't affect the calculation of the protein fraction results. |
