Compliance:

For tests developed and validated by ARUP (previously referred to as Compliance Statement B, C or D). This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This test was performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes.

Collection Instructions

Specimen:Blood, bone marrow, body fluid, tissue or urine/bladder washings

Urine/Bladder Washings: Centrifuge and remove supernatant. The cell pellet should then be re-suspended in a cell culture media such as Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution or RPMI.
Optimal Volume:5 mL whole blood; 2 mL bone marrow, 100 mL body fluid or 2 blocks of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue
Minimum\Peds Volume:1 mL whole blood or bone marrow, 10 mL body fluid or 1 block of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue
Container:Green (sodium heparin, no gel or lithium heparin, no gel) protect from light
Alternate Containers: Plastic leakproof container, sterile, Container, Tissue, sterile
Collection Instructions:
Collect whole blood or bone marrow in green (sodium or lithium heparin, no gel) tube. Send specimen in original container and include specimen source on container.   Provide a Wright stained slide with all bone marrow, whole blood or urine/bladder washings  specimens along with clinical information and specimen source.

Causes for Rejection:Products of conception. No tumor tissue remaining on block. Specimens fixed in Bouin's solution (picric acid), mercuric chloride containing fixatives (e.g. B5, Zenker's solution) or ethanol-based fixatives containing ethylene glycol, acetic acid or zinc chloride. Clotted or hemolyzed blood or bone marrow. Decalcified specimens. Frozen specimens.

Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not process.
Shipping Instructions:Ship overnight at refrigerated temperature. Blood or bone marrow samples must be received within 48 hours of collection.
Test Performed at or Referral Lab Lab Sendouts  (ARUP)
Referral Lab number:95155

Interpretive

Reference Range:By report. Report components include: DNA content, S-phase interpretation and a copy of histogram.
Use:The diagnostic and prognostic importance of tumor DNA content depends on the tumor type and source of tissue. Interpretive information, if available for the tumor type, is included with the DNA histogram.
