Collection Instructions

Specimen:Cyst fluid
Optimal Volume:10-200 mL; collect as much fluid as possible
Minimum\Peds Volume:5 mL
Container:Plastic leakproof container, sterile
Collection Instructions:Do not send fluids in glass vacuum tube or in chest drainage apparatus as any clots which may form cannot be removed without potential infection hazard.
Causes for Rejection:Fixation of any type, specimens with clots. Syringe with needle attached.

Interpretive

Reference Range:Results reported as negative to positive for malignant cells.
Use:Establish diagnosis of cystic process, i.e., benign, malignant, or infectious.
