Collection Instructions

Specimen:Urine, random collection
Optimal Volume:Submit entire collection; analysis requires 1 mL
Container:Plastic leakproof container, sterile
Collection Instructions:A random specimen is acceptable for all peds patients (16 years or less). Cysto Clinic may collect 2-4 hour timed urine collections.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Mix collection well before aliquot is taken. Aliquot 5 mL, 1 mL minimum. Store in refrigerator.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:Refrigerated - 7 days; frozen - 6 months.

Interpretive

Use:
  • No reference range available; recommend a 24 hour urine collection for calcium.
  • Suspect hypocalcemia or hypercalcemia.
  • Monitor treatment for calcemic disorder.
