Specimen:Blood
Optimal Volume:2.5 mL
Minimum\Peds Volume:0.6 mL

Use a non-alcohol germicidal solution to cleanse the skin. The collection tube should be completely filled and kept tightly stoppered at all times.


Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Do not remove stopper. Centrifuge and store in refrigerator. If ETOH is ordered on the same collection tube with VSCN, remove stopper, aliquot quickly, and stopper tube tightly. Comment that the tube has been opened on the request form.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature.
Stability:Roche:
     Serum, Plasma (Li-heparin or K2 EDTA): 2 days at room temperature; 2 weeks refrigerated; 4 weeks frozen.
     Plasma (NaF/Na2 EDTA or NaF/K-oxalate): 2 weeks at room temperature; 3 months refrigerated; 6 months frozen.
