Processing and Shipping

Specimen Processing:Centrifuge and aliquot 1 mL, 0.35 mL minimum. Store in refrigerator up to 7 days.
Shipping Instructions:Ship at refrigerated temperature. Afterwards freeze at -20 C or colder.

Reference Range:A negative test does not exclude current Epstein-Barr infection. Abnormally high levels of IgG and rheumatoid factor could cause occasional false positive results.

36.0-44.0 U/mL Equivocal; please recollect in 1-2 weeks or later
44.0 U/mL or greater Positive; Suggests current or recent infection
Note: The magnitude of the result above the cut-off is not indicative of the amount of antibody present.
Use:EBV IgM antibodies appear 1-6 weeks after the onset of disease and may persist for 3-6 months. These antibodies are considered specific for the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis.
